Manicure Monday: LGBT+ Awareness

Apologies in advance, I'm aware that I have been away for some time as I have had a super busy month! But this manicure Monday will also be a brief insight to my summer job aswell, let me explain...

I'm doing summer work for a company which delivers the National Citizen Service for 15-17 year olds, and they have to come up with a social action project which can help make a difference in their community. So my group decided to raise awareness of the LGBT+ community in their local area letting people aware that they are ok and accept people who do fall under any of these categories, as should others. One of the ways they made awareness was through a sponsored walk where we were all dressed in bright rainbow colours and I thought I would take advantage of my many colourful nail varnishes and paint the gay pride flag!

I only have 5 colours on my fingers but I promise the purple is on my toes! I did a separate blogpost on the blue Kiko nail lacquer but I thought this would be great to use my other 2 bright colours (green and purple) as I had no other similar shades brighter or more vibrant that these. My previous post explains further about how I feel towards Kiko's varnishes but these were just perfect for the event!

The yellow varnish is a Rimmel London Lasting Finish which I bought fairly cheap from superdrug. I'm not too keen on this varnish and only used it simply for its colour. I personally feel like the brush is too flat for my liking and it is also quite thick. The colour isn't very opaque and I had to use 3-4 coats of the colour to make it quite vibrant, it also took longer than I would have like to dry. Quite disappointing considering I really like Rimmel's make up so much.

Feelings are very similar towards the Orange. This is a Colourworks varnish which I got given in a set one Christmas, I'm sure you can get them from superdrug around Christmas time though. The colour isn't very opaque, I think I did about 4 coats, and it took so long to dry. I liked the brush on it however I feel that this brand's handles are far too long for people's liking and I struggled to control it while painting my nail.

The red varnish is from pound land using Pretty as its brand name. This varnish was pleasantly suprising as I had never used it before, I was a matte finish I didn't really expect and I only needed 2 coats to get the vibrant red (good for poundland) I like the brush and the application and didn't take long to dry at all, the only gripe I have with this is the smell- it's so strong! I also used a Pretty top coat over it which has exactly the same qualities as the coloured varnish, however that takes a while to dry.
So here are my finished nails, I got a lot of compliments on them  and I thought they fitted very well with the event held. The orange and yellow were awful for me to work with but I can't sing Kiko's praises enough for making their varnishes and if you are hesitant about using Poundland varnishes, give them a go, they're only £1!

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Creamy Concealer Review

When it comes to make up I always feel like the base is the one thing you need to get right to make the rest of your make up look good. That is why I always like to experiment with different primers, foundations, concealers and powders to find my ideal combinations for different occasions. After constantly seeing Nars Sheer Glow bombing around pretty much everywhere online, I decided to go into my local John Lewis (on more than one occasion) get colour matched. After toying between the samples of Deauville and Fiji for way too long, I decided to go back to John Lewis for one last time to get their opinion. After a problem in store, the girls on the counter decided to give me a full base makeover and, lets just say, I was very impressed and stuff went on my Christmas list.

Mani of the Month: Primark PS Nudes Nail Polish Set

It's no secret that I love painting my own nails. It's a way for me to relax as well as being therapeutic for me. I am often complimented on my nails and asked where I get them done, only to see their shock and surprise at the fact that I do them myself and that they aren't fake! I honestly feel like my choices of nail polish reflect how people react- if I am wearing a polish which looks streaky and tacky people notice, however when my nails are done well, and with good quality polishes which are 'on trend' colours then that is when I get the most compliments. And at the moment that 'on trend' colour is anything nude. I love nude nails, and for me, I really struggle to find the perfect nude nail polish; or any kind of nude beauty products for that matter! So when I was having a scout around good old Primarni, I came across this little set of nude nail polishes. They look lovely, don't they...

How To Survive a Long Distance Relationship

It's been a while... I feel like I kind of told everyone I was moving, got engaged and then never gave a proper update on life. I have now been, what I call, "proper adulting" for 6 months now, passed my probation at work so now which I am buzzing about, have my own place, trying new hobbies, meeting new people, surviving on my own and have my independence. But there is still something missing... My other half who lives 200 miles away. I don't like to mention him too much on here as this is my blog and it's not his place to be broadcast online, however it would be wrong of me not to address our current situation. If this blog post can help one other person in a similar position then I think I've done my job.
