Sleek Power Plump Lip Crayons

Sleek is a brand which has slowly crept into my makeup collection and is quickly becoming one of my favourite high street make up brands. Browsing through my Instagram, I saw that they were coming out with lip crayons and I got very excited. I intially compared them to my Maybelline Colour Drama lip crayons and went under the assumption that they would be similar to those but with the added lip plumping element to them- so I had to buy some!

I bought 2 shades for £5.49 each; Notorious Nude and Berry Burst- the lightest and the darkest shades of the 6 colour range. I really liked the colour range that was there, but there is definetely scope for them to bring out more if the product takes off, but for a product launch there is a good range including nudes, pinks corals and berrys. I just picked the colours that I would most likely wear.

I really enjoy lip crayons, particularly the Maybelline ones that I previously mentioned, so I had already placed these on a high pedestal. I tried Notorious Nude as soon as I bought it and applied it in the shopping centre toilets, the product claims to be 'super pigmented' on the packaging however I did feel like I had to apply many coats to attempt to get the pigmentation I wanted. I then noticed the consistency of them which is quite tacky; not comparable to a lip gloss kind of tacky, but you can feel the product on your lips and are aware that it is there. They also have a minty scent which I enjoy.

However I did forget that these were lip plumping products, and around 15 minutes after applying them they began to make my lips tingle. Like, really tingle! It wasn't even a nice tingle but you began to taste the minty scent and it started to be quite painful- I just had to take it off. I was sad that I had to take it off as I had high hopes for the product and my lips didn't look any plumper when I went to remove the product, it was just a nuciance for me to wear.

I didn't want to give up on the product though and decided to give Berry Burst a chance. I only did a single layer of the product and this shade did come out fairly pigmented, baring in mind these are supposed to be a sheer product and not intended to have a finish or opacity of a matte lipstick. I liked this shade alot on my lips; but again, after around 15 minutes of wearing the product the tingling sensation began again. It wasn't as intense as the first time I wore the product as I had only put a single layer on, and the sensation began to slowly disapear.

I have a photo of what the product looks like when it is first swatched and one after I have worn Berry Burst for an hour; after an hour the product is still on your lips, and you can still feel the slight tackiness of the product being on your lips. It isn't as pigmented as it was on first application but the product still lasts on your lips quite well considering it is a sheer finish.

I do admit, I placed these products quite high up before I bought them, and now that I have tried them I really wouldn't consider them to be similar to the Maybelline Colour Drama's. These are much more sheer in finish and offer the lip plumping sensation that they don't. I would only reccomend applying these in a single layer so they don't feel uncomfortable on the lips, but I do think that they would be nice for every day wear and the shade range is suitable fore that- especially since Berry Burst is the darkest shade and it really isn't that dark!

One thing that does frustrate me a lot is that these products don't sharpen or twist up to get more out of it- so once you are down to the stub then you will need to throw them away. This is very dissapointing as you really don't get a lot of product for your money and I do feel like I have been ripped off considering that there are similar products which give you more bang for your buck.

I'm very torn about wether I like these or not. I definetely have better lip products that I would reach for but if I just wanted something to just quickly throw on my lips for a 'no-make-up make-up look' then I would probably opt for these. If I were to reccomend them to anyone, I would probably say that teenagers could get away with something like this which they could wear for school if their school doesn't allow them to wear make up.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Creamy Concealer Review

When it comes to make up I always feel like the base is the one thing you need to get right to make the rest of your make up look good. That is why I always like to experiment with different primers, foundations, concealers and powders to find my ideal combinations for different occasions. After constantly seeing Nars Sheer Glow bombing around pretty much everywhere online, I decided to go into my local John Lewis (on more than one occasion) get colour matched. After toying between the samples of Deauville and Fiji for way too long, I decided to go back to John Lewis for one last time to get their opinion. After a problem in store, the girls on the counter decided to give me a full base makeover and, lets just say, I was very impressed and stuff went on my Christmas list.

My New Year Favourites

Happy New Year! 2017 was a year where I did some pretty awesome things; I graduated my MA with distinction, I was part of a team which raised £60k for charity, I got to do more travelling this year. However this year has also come with a lot of self-reflection and a lot of wake up calls. I am going into 2018 feeling lost in the world of work; with no more education to turn to and trying to find my place in society to earn a living. It's stressful and is tough, however, temporary as I am keeping positive and something will come my way! 2017 has been great for self-reflection and really focusing on myself, what I want and what I enjoy. Anyways, enough self-reflection for now! I wanted to kick start 2018 off by sharing with you some of my favourite things that are coming into the new year with me that I have been loving, will continue to use and recommend to you guys!

Mani of the Month: Primark PS Nudes Nail Polish Set

It's no secret that I love painting my own nails. It's a way for me to relax as well as being therapeutic for me. I am often complimented on my nails and asked where I get them done, only to see their shock and surprise at the fact that I do them myself and that they aren't fake! I honestly feel like my choices of nail polish reflect how people react- if I am wearing a polish which looks streaky and tacky people notice, however when my nails are done well, and with good quality polishes which are 'on trend' colours then that is when I get the most compliments. And at the moment that 'on trend' colour is anything nude. I love nude nails, and for me, I really struggle to find the perfect nude nail polish; or any kind of nude beauty products for that matter! So when I was having a scout around good old Primarni, I came across this little set of nude nail polishes. They look lovely, don't they...
