The Big American Beauty Haul

I said in my last post that I was going to do this, so here we are! I was like a small child in a sweet shop when I went to the Sephora store located at Disney Springs in Florida. I may have spent alot more than what I expected ($214 to be precise) but I just couldn't help myself, and it was so worth it! I wanted to really focus on the brand's that I either couldn't buy in the UK or are very hard for me to get ahold of, but some stuff I couldn't resist. I also managed to go to Walgreen's, the American version of Boots or Superdrug to get some non-UK high street/'drugstore' makeup. It's fair to say that I bought my fair share of makeup...

It was an accident...
I'll begin with the items I bought in Walgreen's; the first brand I knew I wanted to buy something from was Wet 'n' Wild. I have only heard of this brand online but some of their products have been so highly praised, I had to try something. I wanted to try some of the bronzers but the store I was in seemed very limited to what cosmetics were sold there, they also don't provide testers which is why I didnt buy any face products. But I did see this little eye-shadow pallete which I had heard good things about called Walking on Eggshells, it was surprisingly cheap so I put it in my basket. I really like this product, the eye-shadow is very pigmented and lasts a really long time. It also comes with 2 mini brushes which I have tried, but don't really serve much purpose as I preferred to use my finger. I wouldn't necessarily use the 'crease' shade in my crease as it is a shimmer shade, but it would look lush on the eyelids teamed up with this next product...

I am a fan of the original Maybelline Colour Tattoo creme eye-shadow lots, so when I saw them in stick form I just had to pick one up. I could have very easily bought the whole line but the boyfriend got in the way. But I came away with this one in the shade 730 Creamy Chocolate and I've been really enjoying using it. It is so much easier than dipping your finger in the creme pot, you can put it on your eyelid and even use it to line your lash line. I do have to say that I like the concept of this well-loved product being put into a stick format; but when I blend it out with a brush the pigment goes away, so I do have to resort to using my finger to get the desired pigmentation. Abit of a bummer really but it won't stop me using the product.

The last thing that I bought from Walgreens was something that I had been trying to look for in the UK but could never find anywhere. The L'Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Gloss was something that really intigued me; how can something be glossy and matte at the same time?! The answer to this is that the product is a gloss but with a matte finish, and I really really like it. It isn't sticky like most glosses but it has a thick gloss consistency but very opaque in colour. I got the lightest shade available which was 318 Bare Attraction which is stunning, I wish more brands would come out with 'nudes' similar to this shade. I am gutted that you can't buy these in the UK, if you are ever in America then I would reccommend picking one of these up. The only thing I can really compare these to what I have already tried is the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cremes but a thicker and glossy formula.

Now onto Sephora! Yes it was quite overwhelming, but I went in armed with a list of products that I knew I wanted to buy, I also came out with a few extras aswell and some of my Makeup For Ever products were a couple of those extras. When I was in store, I tried the very hyped Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundation and I wasn't too sure what I thought of it, but then the sales assistant applied the Pro-Finish Powder Foundation on top and my skin looked flawless so I bought the powder and I absoloutley love it!

Another little extra that I left the store with came from the queue dividers that they have on the checkout. These things are the devil; they hold loads of cute mini versions of larger products so I picked up a mini Step 1 Skin Equalizer primer in the hydrating formula. This feels like I am putting a glass of water on my face, I love it when I am having a dry skin day. I am using it sparingly though as it is in the mini formula!

Now I said that I wasn't too sure about the foundation so I didn't buy it in store, but after I left the store and carried on the rest of the day; spotting my reflection in store windows and mirrors, I did regret not buying it. So I bought it online when I got back to the UK! Make Up For Ever is a brand that is quite difficult to buy in the UK, especially if you live up North, but I did my research and found a little boutique in London which sells the foundation online. I knew my shade was 115/R230 so I just bought it and I have no regrets, I use it with a buffing brush and it is my new favourite medium-to-full coverage foundation!

Now this one was on my list! And it was the first thing that I saw when I walked into the store and it went straight into my basket, without hesitation. I had never heard of the brand Becca until one of my favourite beauty guru's Jaclyn Hill collaborated with them to bring out a new highlighter named Champagne Pop. As much as I love Jaclyn, I swatched this in store and it was everything I wanted in a highlighter, it was beautiful! A tiny bit goes along way, I wore it for my graduation and I got so many compliments. I could very easily do a full in-depth review on this product, but long story short; I love this stuff!

I had my eye on this next product but I didn't expect to actually buy it. And then I made the mistake of swatching it and I loved it, whoopsie! You can't buy Tarte in the UK which is why I had a good browse around the Tarte stand, I could have very easily spend a small fortune on this brand but the original Tartlette eyeshadow pallete stole my heart. The rareity of an all-matte pallete which was so versatile was something that I had been looking to add to my collection for a very long time. The shadows are so pigmented, and you can create so many looks with this one pallete. It is stunning! And the mirror is fantastic!

Something that I was on the hunt for was a peach colour corrector for my under eyes. I asked the sales assistant which one she would reccommend, I was expecting her to point me to the most expensive brands in the store but she took me over to the Urban Decay stand to look at their range of colour correctors. I didn't even know Urban Decay did colour correctors! They had the same kind of design, consistency and applicator of the Naked Skin Concealer; a product which I already love so I thought I would give the Peach colour corrector a shot. I have been really enjoying using this; it instantly brightens up my eyes and blends so easily. Definetely reccommend!

Now onto lips. Also from Urban Decay, the new 100 Vice Lipsticks had just been released before I flew out to the States, I thought with 100 shades there must be at least 1 that I liked. And that one I liked was in the shade Carnal. This is in the Comfort Matte finish and I really like the finish of this lipstick. It sits really comfortable on the lips and lasts a very long time. The shade is a dark beigy/brown nude with a pink undertone. These are the type of lipstick shades that I enjoy wearing the most, but I also love the packaging of these lipsticks aswell.

Another lip product I bought was from Kat Von D. I have just found out that this brand is coming to the UK to be sold in Debenhams stores, which has made me very excited becasue I absoloutley love their Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks. Now I wouldn't consider myself a massive fan of liquid lipsticks in general, I find alot of them quite drying on my own lips, but I really enjoy the formula of these Kat Von D ones. They apply nice and easily, don't dry the lips out and they last a long time! I got mine in the infamous Lolita shade.

A holiday wouldn't be a holiday if I didn't buy makeup from Duty Free at the airport. Ofcourse MAC lipsticks are my weakness, so I bought one going out to America and one coming back home. I bought See Sheer going out, this is an orangey-peach shade in a Lustre finish. I had this colour on my list so I knew I wanted to buy it, a lovely sheer toned pop of colour for the summer. And coming home, I bought the shade Mocha; another one that I had my eye on. In the swatches below this and Carnal from Urban Decay look very very similar, but in person Mocha is a lot warmer and less red-toned. Mocha is the shade between other MAC Lipsticks Retro, Taupe and Velvet Teddy that I have been looking for, and it is in a Satin finish, my favourite by MAC.

MAC Mocha, MAC See Sheer, Urban Decay Carnal and Kat Von D Lolita

So there we go! I hate how easy it is to spend money on make up! A guilty pleasure which I will not be giving up any time soon; I will give you the advanced warning to probably expect a 'Part 2' of this post in September after I have visited New York...

Have you been makeup shopping in the US recently? What do you reccomend me buying when I am in New York? Let me know in the comments below, or Tweet me @Elisa_A__

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Creamy Concealer Review

When it comes to make up I always feel like the base is the one thing you need to get right to make the rest of your make up look good. That is why I always like to experiment with different primers, foundations, concealers and powders to find my ideal combinations for different occasions. After constantly seeing Nars Sheer Glow bombing around pretty much everywhere online, I decided to go into my local John Lewis (on more than one occasion) get colour matched. After toying between the samples of Deauville and Fiji for way too long, I decided to go back to John Lewis for one last time to get their opinion. After a problem in store, the girls on the counter decided to give me a full base makeover and, lets just say, I was very impressed and stuff went on my Christmas list.

My New Year Favourites

Happy New Year! 2017 was a year where I did some pretty awesome things; I graduated my MA with distinction, I was part of a team which raised £60k for charity, I got to do more travelling this year. However this year has also come with a lot of self-reflection and a lot of wake up calls. I am going into 2018 feeling lost in the world of work; with no more education to turn to and trying to find my place in society to earn a living. It's stressful and is tough, however, temporary as I am keeping positive and something will come my way! 2017 has been great for self-reflection and really focusing on myself, what I want and what I enjoy. Anyways, enough self-reflection for now! I wanted to kick start 2018 off by sharing with you some of my favourite things that are coming into the new year with me that I have been loving, will continue to use and recommend to you guys!

Mani of the Month: Primark PS Nudes Nail Polish Set

It's no secret that I love painting my own nails. It's a way for me to relax as well as being therapeutic for me. I am often complimented on my nails and asked where I get them done, only to see their shock and surprise at the fact that I do them myself and that they aren't fake! I honestly feel like my choices of nail polish reflect how people react- if I am wearing a polish which looks streaky and tacky people notice, however when my nails are done well, and with good quality polishes which are 'on trend' colours then that is when I get the most compliments. And at the moment that 'on trend' colour is anything nude. I love nude nails, and for me, I really struggle to find the perfect nude nail polish; or any kind of nude beauty products for that matter! So when I was having a scout around good old Primarni, I came across this little set of nude nail polishes. They look lovely, don't they...
