My Holiday Makeup Routine

As you are reading this I will be just returning from my holiday in Lanzarote! And as I am writing this I am currently packing (and procrastinating) for the holiday, so I thought I would take the opportunity to share with you some of my favourite makeup picks that I like to take abroad with me. I don't usually like to wear a lot of makeup when I go abroad, I get hot and clammy really quickly- lush, I know! So when it comes to holiday makeup I have a few easy rules that I like to follow. 1. Be minimal. 2. Pack light. 3. Pack cheap. I often go for simplicity when I am abroad, and only really wear a full face in the evening; during the day I barely do concealer, brows and mascara and a bit of tinted Vasaline. I also try and choose smaller products which won't be much hassle for me to take abroad and don't want to overwhelm myself when I am out there with too much makeup when I only need a quick fix. And finally, because I do travel with it, I will often go for high street makeup products which are easy to replace, that way if a disaster strikes and something breaks I can just go and pick it up again locally for a good price. Anyways! Enough talking Here. We. Go!

Base
As mentioned, I don't like to wear a lot of heavy make up when I am on holiday, during the day I will be wearing sun cream only, there is absolutely no point of wearing a full face of makeup when you are just going to jump in the pool. But in the evenings when I want to make the extra effort, I will opt for a BB Cream. I have really been enjoying the Rimmel 9 in 1 Matte Skin Perfecting BB Cream which feels like nothing on the skin but provides a really nice matte finish with a very good coverage for a BB Cream. I opted for the Matte version because I tend to get oily in the Summer and this seems to have very good oil control when I wear it for a long period of time. Its packaging is travel friendly in a squeeze tube and it also has SPF 15 making it ideal for going abroad.

For concealer, even if it is during the day time I will always cover my under-eye circles using the Maybelline Anti-Age The Eraser Eye. I adore this concealer and I am on my 3rd tube of it because I love it that much, it feels so light on the skin but blends like a dream and has such good coverage- I don't think anything will replace this staple makeup item. However for the rest of my face, if I feel like I want more coverage that the BB Cream doesn't give me, I will go for the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. It says that it is weightless and has complete coverage which I totally agree with and I really enjoy using it, it doesn't go cakey on me either so it's going in the makeup bag.

Sometimes if I feel like I have overdone it on the sun cream during the day, I will use a matte powder to reduce the shine and give me a bit of coverage if I am, well, sunburnt. Also to set my under-eye area and any concealer I will use MAC Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, giving me the necessary coverage I need- I know I am going back on my word of taking more expensive products but this packaging is the most travel friendly and the most compact for travel, I can easily replace this anyways.

For my face products I keep this as compact as possible. I really enjoy traveling with my little Sleek Face Form Contour and Highlight duo compact as it is so easy to travel with, so versatile if I want to us it on my eyes as well as offering what I want in both a bronzer and a highlight for a small price. The bronzer is perfect if I just want to warm up the cheeks or go full on contour depending on what brush I use- comparable to Benefit's Hoola in my opinion, and the highlight is just stunning. Traveling aside, probably one of my favourite makeup products out of my whole collection and I urge people to try it out.

For my blush, I have naturally flushed cheeks when I am abroad anyways, so I keep blush minimal. I use Rimmel Lasting Finish Soft Colour Blush in 010 Santa Rose. Something very subtle but pretty at the same time, giving a nice sheen if you would rather skip the highlighter. It is nice and compact and you can build up the colour if you really want to make it intense.
Eyes
I will always do my brows when I am on holiday, but would rather take minimal products. For an every day brow, I have really been enjoying the Smashbox BrowTech To Go. It is a waxy pencil with an angled tip making it easy to get a defined brow but to do it quickly, it also has a built in clear brow gel which is a MUST for going on holiday for me. This is something I use on an every day basis but can be built up to create a bolder brow, however if I want to really define my brows then I will just use my eyeshadows.

Speaking of which... For my eyes I like to go basic and neutral. I will most certainly be taking my favourite neutral Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo paint pot in Creamy Beige which is a nice flush of colour on the lids if I want a very simple eye look. However, of course I will take a palette with me, and will be taking the Too Faced Natural Eyes one with me. I recently did a review on this so I won't repeat what I have already said, but I feel like this is the only palette I have used since I have bought it, it is so versatile and has everything I need, making it the perfect travel companion (praying to God it won't break).

I don't really wear eyeliner but if I want to really define my lashes then the one I will usually always opt for is the Topshop Magic Liner, a black liquid liner with a felt tip applicator, pigmented and has strong staying power- 2 very important things I look for when it comes to liquid liner. It is also very easy to apply and I can get right close to the lashes with it and it is probably my favourite liquid liner I have tried to date.
The Maybelline Lash Sensational is my go to mascara for traveling. Firstly, I use waterproof mascara so I am able to wear this around the pool or to the beach if I want to. Secondly, the brush means that I can either make my lashes subtle or really voluminous (if I curl them) and can build it up to be as fine or a clumpy as I wish. I love this mascara and I think that it will be one that I will enjoy using for a very long time in the future.

Lips
Lip options are always a weird one for me because I always choose a lip colour based off my mood. But because I don't have that option to take loads with me, I opt for only 2 fairly neutral lipsticks, both of which I have mentioned previously as part of my 2016 favourites. The first is one I use every day, the Maybelline Colour Sensational in Velvet Beige which is my handbag lipstick and my perfect every day lippy. The second is Maybelline Colour Sensational's Clay Crush from the Creamy Mattes collection, one of my favourite high street lippys, comparable to MAC's Velvet Teddy and Taupe- this is a great alternative to a neutral lip if I want something a bit more classic.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Creamy Concealer Review

When it comes to make up I always feel like the base is the one thing you need to get right to make the rest of your make up look good. That is why I always like to experiment with different primers, foundations, concealers and powders to find my ideal combinations for different occasions. After constantly seeing Nars Sheer Glow bombing around pretty much everywhere online, I decided to go into my local John Lewis (on more than one occasion) get colour matched. After toying between the samples of Deauville and Fiji for way too long, I decided to go back to John Lewis for one last time to get their opinion. After a problem in store, the girls on the counter decided to give me a full base makeover and, lets just say, I was very impressed and stuff went on my Christmas list.

My New Year Favourites

Happy New Year! 2017 was a year where I did some pretty awesome things; I graduated my MA with distinction, I was part of a team which raised £60k for charity, I got to do more travelling this year. However this year has also come with a lot of self-reflection and a lot of wake up calls. I am going into 2018 feeling lost in the world of work; with no more education to turn to and trying to find my place in society to earn a living. It's stressful and is tough, however, temporary as I am keeping positive and something will come my way! 2017 has been great for self-reflection and really focusing on myself, what I want and what I enjoy. Anyways, enough self-reflection for now! I wanted to kick start 2018 off by sharing with you some of my favourite things that are coming into the new year with me that I have been loving, will continue to use and recommend to you guys!

Mani of the Month: Primark PS Nudes Nail Polish Set

It's no secret that I love painting my own nails. It's a way for me to relax as well as being therapeutic for me. I am often complimented on my nails and asked where I get them done, only to see their shock and surprise at the fact that I do them myself and that they aren't fake! I honestly feel like my choices of nail polish reflect how people react- if I am wearing a polish which looks streaky and tacky people notice, however when my nails are done well, and with good quality polishes which are 'on trend' colours then that is when I get the most compliments. And at the moment that 'on trend' colour is anything nude. I love nude nails, and for me, I really struggle to find the perfect nude nail polish; or any kind of nude beauty products for that matter! So when I was having a scout around good old Primarni, I came across this little set of nude nail polishes. They look lovely, don't they...
