Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint Review

Call the police! I think I have found my new "every day foundation". Well, not necessarily a foundation, it is marketed as a skin tint which implies that it would be something similar to a tinted moisturiser or a BB cream which is fair enough, and something that I have been looking for. Intending to walk into Space NK to test and possibly purchase Nars' new Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation, I ended up walking out with their Velvet Matte Skin Tint- quite the contrast considering one is a full coverage, long wear foundation and the other is something of a lighter coverage. Let me explain further...

With my hand full of multiple make up swatches, from foundation to eyeshadows I had one spare spot on my hand where I decided to pick up the Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint. The name was intriguing, how much coverage is a skin tint? What is a 'velvet matte'? As soon as I put a tiny amount on my hand and blended it in circles to my skin I knew straight away that I had to try it out.

I'm personally one who likes a matte finish when it comes to my base make up, however with combination skin it can be quite tricky to find something which either doesn't emphasise my dry patches or breaks up on my oily parts throughout the day. When I blended this in, it isn't a pure matte, it does have a slight luminosity to it which provides a soft matte finish, but still making your skin look radiant. It is an oil-free product so would benefit multiple skin types and the blendability is fantastic.

On the face, I was advised to use my hands to blend this in, however I prefer to use a large flat kabuki brush and put a small quirt of the product onto the brush and dot it over my face before blending in circular motions and it looks flawless in less than a minute, no streaks or anything. I use the shade Finland (Light 1) which is described on Nars' website as a lightest shade with yellow neutral undertones and it is a great match for me. The product just sinks into the skin, providing quite a decent amount of coverage (described as medium coverage on the website) to cover up any redness and imperfections. When I use this product for an every-day use I opt not to use concealer on my scarring, even though the imperfections peak through and it doesn't completely cover them it makes your skin just look ever so slightly airbrushed to the point where too much concealer would make it look unflattering.

I love that this is in a plastic tube, I don't have to worry about it breaking when I travel and it looks super sleek, but the product inside just provides enough coverage for me to get away with looking like my own skin but better. When I blend the product it sinks right into my skin so it provides a great natural coverage which is really long wearing without a need to use powder as it dries down pretty quick and feels like nothing on the skin. It also has an SPF of 30 which is a great bonus when it comes to the Summer, I feel like this would be a great summer base as it isn't too heavy but makes your skin look lovely without caking too much product on your face and other products apply very nicely on top.

This product is £30 which may seem a bit high for some, however I feel like a good staple base which you are able to use daily is something worth investing in; a great base will make the rest of your make up look great and I think if you want to get one thing spot on in your make up it is your complexion products. I would strongly recommend this product to people who may not want to wear a full face of make up every day, but just want that something which will even out your complexion and give you a nice coverage which will last all day. Here is the link to buy the product directly from Nars' website.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Creamy Concealer Review

When it comes to make up I always feel like the base is the one thing you need to get right to make the rest of your make up look good. That is why I always like to experiment with different primers, foundations, concealers and powders to find my ideal combinations for different occasions. After constantly seeing Nars Sheer Glow bombing around pretty much everywhere online, I decided to go into my local John Lewis (on more than one occasion) get colour matched. After toying between the samples of Deauville and Fiji for way too long, I decided to go back to John Lewis for one last time to get their opinion. After a problem in store, the girls on the counter decided to give me a full base makeover and, lets just say, I was very impressed and stuff went on my Christmas list.

My New Year Favourites

Happy New Year! 2017 was a year where I did some pretty awesome things; I graduated my MA with distinction, I was part of a team which raised £60k for charity, I got to do more travelling this year. However this year has also come with a lot of self-reflection and a lot of wake up calls. I am going into 2018 feeling lost in the world of work; with no more education to turn to and trying to find my place in society to earn a living. It's stressful and is tough, however, temporary as I am keeping positive and something will come my way! 2017 has been great for self-reflection and really focusing on myself, what I want and what I enjoy. Anyways, enough self-reflection for now! I wanted to kick start 2018 off by sharing with you some of my favourite things that are coming into the new year with me that I have been loving, will continue to use and recommend to you guys!

Mani of the Month: Primark PS Nudes Nail Polish Set

It's no secret that I love painting my own nails. It's a way for me to relax as well as being therapeutic for me. I am often complimented on my nails and asked where I get them done, only to see their shock and surprise at the fact that I do them myself and that they aren't fake! I honestly feel like my choices of nail polish reflect how people react- if I am wearing a polish which looks streaky and tacky people notice, however when my nails are done well, and with good quality polishes which are 'on trend' colours then that is when I get the most compliments. And at the moment that 'on trend' colour is anything nude. I love nude nails, and for me, I really struggle to find the perfect nude nail polish; or any kind of nude beauty products for that matter! So when I was having a scout around good old Primarni, I came across this little set of nude nail polishes. They look lovely, don't they...
